The English actor Aubrey Mallalieu was born 8th June 1873 in Liverpool.

He appeared extensively in films during the 1930s and 1940’s with over 120 film credits to his name.  Being a white-haired, bespectacled gentleman complete with comb-over he was typically type-cast usually as respectable elder gentlemen of the establishment.

Just a few of his many film appearances include The Riverside Murder 1935, Love at Sea 1936, The Black tulip 1937, All That Glitters 1937, East of Ludgate Hill 1937, You’re the Doctor 1938, The Stars Look down 1940, Spare a Copper 1940, Black Sheep of Whitehall 1942, Unpublished Story 1942, The Goose Steps Out 1942, Murder in Reverse 1945, School for Secrets 1946, Meet Me at Dawn 1947 and The Winslow Boy 1948.

For fans of Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne he appeared alongside them in 1946’s A Girl in a Million – he played the part of the Judge.

He died 28th May 1948.

Patricia Roc was one of Britain's biggest female stars of the post-war years, she appeared at various positions (3rd being the highest) in the British and Motion Picture Herald popularity polls between 1945-50.  She was pretty, vivacious and charming, which was all most of her early roles called for.  She was born 7th June 1915 in London and died December 30 in Switzerland.

Patricia Roc was the first homegrown British star to go to Hollywood under a "lend-lease" deal between Rank Pictures and Universal Studios. She co-starred in the western, Canyon Passage (1946) in 1946, alongside Susan Hayward, who said after filming that "that Limey glamour girl is a helluva dame". A then-struggling actor by the name of Ronald Reagan, was also romantically involved with Roc while filming "Canyon Passage".
 
She made her stage debut, in 1938, in a London production of the comedy, "Nuts in May", playing the part of Miss Clarke, where she was spotted by movie mogul Alexander Korda. She then made her screen debut in the 1938 costume epic, The Rebel Son (1946). She had a 40-film movie career that blossomed during WWII.
She was described by the head of her studio, "J. Arthur Rank", as "the archetypal British beauty" and "the Goddess of Odeon's". She was also described by Sir Noël Coward as "a phenomenon" and "an unspoiled movie star who can act".
 
One of her most memorable roles was as Celia Crowson (pictured) in the WW2 propaganda film Millions Like Us.
 
Other notable films that she appeared in include The Gaunt Stranger 1938, The Farmers Wife 1941, We’ll Meet Again 1943, Two Thousand Women 1944, Johnny Frenchman 1945 and The Wicked Lady 1945.
 

The actor Alan Haines was born 6th June 1924.  He spent four years in the Royal Navy during World War II — including at D-Day on his 20th birthday.

In addition to his film work he appeared in many West End shows and touring productions, as well as in the cult TV series Dad's Army and Van der Valk.

His notable film appearances comprise The Day Will Dawn 1942, Millions Like Us 1942, The Man in the White Suit 1951 and Dad's Army 1971 as well as in the TV show Dads Army (pictured) and the acclaimed BBC TV Series Perfect Strangers.

He died on 17th April 2011.

The actor Alexander Field was born 6th June 1892 in London and served in the British Army during World War I.

He was a British character actor, often seen in cockney roles.  Some of the films that he appeared in include All Riot on the Western Front 1930, Third Time Lucky 1931, Head of the Family 1933, Millions 1937, The Dark Eyes of London 1939, as Private Durnford (1st photo) in the WW2 film Next of Kin, Loyal Hearts 1946, Blanche fury 1948, as a Taxi Driver (2nd photo) in Stop Press Girl 1949, Waterfront 1950 and Undercover Girl 1958.

He died on 17th August 1971

Bill Fraser was born on 5th June 1908 in Perth, Scotland as William Simpson Fraser.

At the age of twenty he ran his own repertory company at Worthing and he has also acted on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company.  During WW2 he served with the RAF.

With over 130 film and TV credits to his name he had a very productive career.  Some of the many films that he appeared in include: East of Piccadilly (1941), Forbidden (1949), appearing as Oliver Cromwell in Helter Skelter (1949), Meet me Tonight (1952), Terror on a Train (1953), The Barefott Contessa (1954), Orders are Orders – pictured (1954), Doctor at Large 1957 and A Home of Your Own (1965).

Whilst his film roles were generally minor, he was popular on television in shows like Bootsie and Snudge (1960), as Claude Snudge in The Army Game (1960) and also in Foreign Affiars 1964, as Basil Bulstrode in That’s Your Funeral 1964, Rumpole of the Bailey (1978) and as General Grugger in 1980’s Dr Who.

He died on 5th September 1987 in Hertfordshire.

Known primarily in Britain for his many "matinée idol" roles during the 1950s, Anthony Steel was born in London on 21st May 1920 and was the son of an Indian army officer. He was educated at Cambridge and served in the army for England during World War II. It wasn't until after the war that he pursued acting, starring in such adventure-charged films as Malta Story (1953) for the J. Arthur Rank studio. His career was at its pinnacle and he was lauded as one of Britain's biggest movie stars when he married Anita Ekberg in 1956 and set out with her to break into Hollywood pictures, albeit with little success and finding Hollywood unsatisfactory and even hostile.

One of his first film appearances was in an uncredited role in 1949’s Helter Skelter.

​The English bit-part actor Jim O'Brady was born on 13th May in 1907 as George Clifford Watkin. He was an actor, known for Midshipman Barney (1951) and Treasure Island (1950).

With over 150 credits to his name from the late 1940’s through to mid-1970’s he will be recognised to many film fans although many of his roles were uncredited.

A prime example is his appearance in 1949’s Ealing Studios classic Passport to Pimlico where he played the uncredited part of ‘the man in the pub’ (pictured).

The British character actor Wilfred Hyde-White was born 12th May 1903.  Of wry charm, he was equally at home in amused or strait-laced characters. With scores of films to his credit, he will always be remembered for one, My Fair Lady (1964), in which he played Colonel Pickering. Active into his ninth decade, Hyde-White died six days before his 88th birthday on 6th May 1991.

For fans of basil Radford and Naunton Wayne there are three films of particular note that he appeared in.  In 1948 he played the role of second club-man in the “Colonel’s Lady” segment in Quartet and in 1949 he played the part of Dr. B. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde (1st picture) in Helter Skelter – both films featured Radford and Wayne.  However in 1949 he played the part of Crabbin in Carol Reed’s classic The Third Man.  This particular role was the amalgamation of two roles specifically created for Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne – they were to play the parts of Captain Carter and Captain Tombs of the Cultural Re-education Section of G.H.Q.

His TV roles include appearances in 1960’s Ben Casey, Peyton Place 1967, Battlestar Galactica 1978, The Associates 1979, 1981’s Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Fantasy Island 1982 and 1983’s Filthy Rich.

The actress Carol Marsh was born in London on May 10, 1926 as Norma Lilian Simpson. She was probably best known for her appearance as Rose in Brighton Rock (1948) – she beat over 2,000 applicants to land the starring role.

One of her other early film appearances was as the hiccupping lead character Susan Graham (pictured) in 1949’s Helter Skelter.
 
Her film appearances include Naughty Arlette 1949, as Scrooge’s sister Fan in 1951’s A Christmas Carol, Brighthaven Express 1952, The Runaway Slave 1954 and Horror of Dracula 1958.
 
Her TV career extended through to the mid 1970’s with appearances in Nom-de-Plume 1956, as Carol Miller in 1957’s The Royalty, as Augusta Fawn in 1959’s The Eustace Diamonds, Lord Raingo and as Mrs Clare in 1974’s Marked Personal.
She died on March 6, 2010 in Bloomsbury, London.

'Let's go fly a kite, up to the highest height.'  The line is one of the famous lines made by the actor David Tomlinson in the film Mary Poppins.  He was an English stage, film and television actor and comedian born 7th May 1917.

Having been described as both a leading man and a character actor, he is primarily remembered for his roles as authority figure George Banks in Mary Poppins, fraudulent magician Professor Emelius Browne in Bedknobs and Broomsticks and as hapless antagonist Peter Thorndyke in The Love Bug. In 2002, two years after his death on 24th June 2000, he was posthumously inducted as a Disney Legend.

He appeared in dozens of other films in addition to the above ones; some of which include: "Pimpernel" Smith (1941), I See a Dark Stranger (1946), School for Secrets (1946), Sleeping Car to Trieste (1948),  Here Come the Huggetts (1948), Vote for Huggett (1949), The Wooden Horse (1950), Three Men in a Boat (1956), Follow That Horse! (1960) and his final film role in 1980 as Sir Richard Avery in The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu.
