He was a character actor, with experience in revue, musical comedy and pantomime and had a big presence in British B-movies from the mid-1930's, he was seen in countless small roles as cabbies, workmen, bar attendants and the like.
Amongst his many film roles, he played George (first photo), the Crowson’s next door neighbour in the 1943 home-front film Millions Like Us; he also appeared as the Lance Corporal (2nd photo) in Next of Kin 1940 – both films featured Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne in their typical British army officer roles.
Some of the many films that he appeared in include Cock O' the North 1935, The Mystery of the Marie Celeste 1936, Incident in Shanghai 1938, The Arsenal Stadium Mystery 1939, Let George Do It and Spare A Copper ( both 1940 George Formby films), Will Hay's The Goose Steps Out 1942, In Which We Serve 1942, Blithe Spirit 1945, Train of Events 1949 and his final film appearance in See How They Run 1955.
