The British actress Beatrice Varley was born in Manchester on 11th July 1896. She made her screen debut in the 1936 film Tomorrow We Live and began to portray a variety of character roles, typically downtrodden housekeepers, landladies etc, in British films before moving predominantly into television until her death in 1964. One of her typical roles was as Miss Wells (pictured) in Millions Like Us in 1943.
