The Belfast born actor Austin Trevor was born 7th October in 1897. He saw action with the British Army during WW1 before entering the acting career where he appeared on both sides of the Atlantic on stage and in film and TV productions. He was the first actor to play Agatha Christie's detective Hercule Poirot on screen in three British films during the early 1930s: Alibi 1931, Black Coffee 1931 and Lord Edgware Dies 1934. For fans of the Charters and Caldicott characters he played the part of Captain Prada (pictured) in Carol Reed's 1940 film Night Train To Munich. Some of the many other film and TV productions that he appeared in include The Silent Passenger 1935, Dusty Ermine 1936, Goodbye, Mr. Chips 1939, The Briggs family 1940, The Big Blockade 1942, Champagne Charlie 1944, The Red Shoes 1948, Father Brown 1954, Abandon Ship 1957, Dixon of Dock Green 1958-1959, Horrors of the Black Museum 1959, The Day the Earth Caught Fire 1961, Count of Monte Cristo TV series 1964, The Alphabet Murders 1965 and two different parts in the TV Series Whack-O! in 1957 and in 1972. Austin Trevor died 22nd January 1978. |
